About 55 FHHS graduating seniors ventured off without knowing what was in store for them for the evening and into the early morning hours this past Saturday night… About 15 community chaperones helped make the night a safe outing and lots of creative activities planned for them to share and enjoy together.
As you may know, Grad Nite was first offered back in 2007 by the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition and contributing parents and community members. Joyce Stimpson took the lead role as her son was going to be graduating. It’s all about creating an environment that is drug and alcohol free and the seniors don’t have to worry about “partying” they can focus on having fun! All transportation is provided, too. Year-to-year the activities change and are kept a secret from the seniors, as a way of building anticipation and creating some intrigue for the evening. It’s a recipe that works. The time spent with friends in a sober and stimulating manner gives them a night to cherish and remember.
Here are the T-shirts the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition provided for each senior. And the other gifts provided at the end of the night. We hope to share more photos from the event soon:) Check back with us…
