Collaboration

Partnerships

Working with local schools to bring positive messaging assemblies and promote a safe, civil and productive learning environment. We must work together.

Our goals are to strengthen community collaboration and reduce substance abuse among youth.

We accomplish our goals by working together to reduce risk factors that lead to substance abuse and increasing protective factors that prevent substance abuse.

We were funded by a federal Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant. There was a potential of five years of funding up to $500,000 for that period of implementation. The San Juan Island Prevention Coalition submitted a five year plan and received first year funding in 2004. SJIPC completed it’s full 10 years of federal funding in 2014. We did so much for our community during these 10 years, with a budget provided by the Federal Government. We supported programs in the schools, worked with local organizations aimed to build community and strengthen our youth and families.  Collaboration is the only way possible to continue the good work we all have offered. We are currently receiving a smaller budget from the State, but as you might imagine, it’s limited. Let’s keep working together to provide healthy options for our youth to help them choose health!
